Beauty Fix - July 2015

My July BeautyFix box arrived yesterday.  Here are the samples featured in this month's box:

Product Information Card

Deva Curl 3-Step Introductory Kit  1 oz each ($7.95 value on Folica)

Erno Laszlo Firmarine Face Bar  0.6 oz  ($5.40 value)

Cost of Box:  $24.95 (plus tax if applicable, includes free shipping)
Total Box Value:  Approximately $71.13
Impressions: This month's box included a lot of skincare products, which I like, but the sizes of the samples are somewhat comical compared to what Dermstore normally sends.  I believe the mascara and lip balm are the only full size products in this box.  I don't normally like getting shampoo samples but I've been interested in trying the Deva Curl products.  I like that they included the kit so you can try the whole system together.  I hate getting a shampoo sample but not the conditioner or vice versa.  If you have thin or short hair you may be able to stretch this kit in to two applications but I'll be lucky if this is enough for one use for me!  Hopefully it works well on my naturally curly hair.  I've also been in need of quality hair clips that can handle my thick hair and these by Harry Josh seem to be durable and have a "toothed" design to help them stay in place while styling your hair.  I'm also quite interested in trying the Bliss mask.  I believe it's supposed to work like a liquid exfoliant.  I don't plan to use the mascara but the face cleansers and creams seem interesting and worth trying.  I don't wear makeup but I think the Vichy calming cleanser for sensitive skin might still be useful for when I have a breakout.  And I'm glad the Lip Quench product is a lip balm and not a tinted lip gloss.

The overall value of this month's BeautyFix box from Dermstore is a lot less than normal.  The value is usually well over $100.  And it doesn't help that two of the samples were clearly labeled "not for resale" and the hair clips came in a package that said "free sample".  I plan to use almost everything in this box but I'm not really over the moon excited about it.  This month's box just seemed like an effort to clear out their free sample bins.  There isn't much of a wow factor and I think it's because I'm used to them including more full size products.  I don't feel like this month's box was really worth the $24.95 price and I think even they knew it because they had a special half price deal on this month's box for new subscribers.  The products in last month's box were not useful to me personally and this month's skincare sample sizes were somewhat disappointing.  I decided to go ahead and cancel my membership because I have been getting more picky with the boxes I subscribe to lately.  If I'm not crazy about it anymore or it isn't a great value with a lot of useful items, I cancel it!  This will help reduce wasted money, product overload, and the accumulation of useless items and narrow my focus on those boxes that really supply the type of items I need or will actually use.

I will say that BeautyFix includes a lot more samples per box than any other beauty box I've ever subscribed to.  There is usually a lot of variety in the samples and the value of the boxes are normally well over the cost of the box.  They also usually include multiple full size items.  This month may have just been an off month for them and maybe August will be an awesome box.  In the future, I may occasionally make one time box purchases if I see spoilers for a box with a lot of products I would really like to try.  The non-subscription price per box is more expensive at $34.95 (plus tax if applicable) but still includes shipping.

Goodebox - July 2015

I received my July Goodebox today and I really like what I got!  Here is a look at the samples I received in this month's box:

Product Information Cards

Yarok Feed Your Shine Hair Serum  10ml ($8.93 value)

Cost of Box:  $19 (free shipping)
Total Box Value:  $55.71
Impressions:   I'm excited to try the Acure facial scrub because I've been trying many different skin brightening products over the past few months.  I'm so happy to have another product from 100% Pure!  And I have been in need of another blemish treatment so this came right on time!  I have received several sunscreens in beauty boxes over the past few months.  I prefer spray sunscreens over lotions and sticks but I do appreciate having more natural sunscreens.  I like trying serums of all kind, including hair serums.  I haven't tried the Yarok serum yet to know how well it works on my hair but I do know that I don't like the scent.  I think it's the strong mix of cedar and sage that I don't like.  I will give it a try but I wish the scent was more subtle.  The Oneself perfume is wonderful!  I normally dislike getting these little perfume vials but I love this Hawaiian flower lei scent which reminds me a lot of honeysuckle.  It's sweet but not overwhelming.  I wish the sample was bigger!  I may have to invest in the full size.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the variety and size of the samples I received this month.  I'm most excited about the scrub, spot treatment, and perfume but I plan to try everything so this was a great box for me.  The retail value of this box is nearly three times what paid which makes this box an even better deal.  I've really been impressed with Goodebox lately and I'm already looking forward to next month's box!

Beauty Fix - June 2015

This post is way late but I thought I would go ahead and share what I received in the June BeautyFix box:

Product Information Card:

Cargo Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Nude  1.7 oz ($34)
Ashford & Co. Shave Cream  3.4 fl oz ($25)
Paula's Choice Sun 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate  0.5 oz ($18)
IS Clinical Cleaning Complex  2 oz ($20 value)

Arcona Cranberry Toner  1 oz ($9.38 value)

WEI Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask  0.3 oz ($6 value)
Roloxin Lift Revitalizing Facial Treatment ($11 value)

Sunscreen Samples
HydroPeptide Solar Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30  4 ml ($3.52 value)
Skinceuticals Physical Water UV Defense SPF 30 (Free Sample)
LA Roche Posay Anthelios 60 Cooling Water Lotion Sunscreen  0.1 oz ($0.72 value)

Cost of Box:  $24.95 (plus tax if applicable, includes free shipping)
Total Box Value:  $152.62
Impressions:  As usual, I am impressed with the retail value of this box.  I also like the large sizes of the products included.  Unfortunately, I was not really excited about the products featured in this month's box.  I do not use dry shampoo, tinted moisturizers, or self tanners.  The shaving cream they featured is a men's shaving cream and distinctly smells like men's shave cream.  If it had been for women, had a neutral scent, or was even scentless, I would have been fine with it.  Maybe they threw it in because Father's Day was in June.  Either way, I would really rather not pay for a women's beauty box and get products that were clearly intended for male customers.  I'm also starting to get on sunscreen overload and the little samples included here are barely enough for one use considering how much I apply.  I gave everything except the cleanser, toner, mask and Roloxin away to coworkers and receptionists.  I like trying new cleanser and toner samples and they're useful for travel and baskets in guest bathrooms.  I received a sample of the WEI mask in a Birchbox before and liked it so I'm glad to have another sample of it.  I've never used Roloxin before and fortunately don't have wrinkles yet but I think this might still be useful to help combat the effects of late nights.

Overall, the June box has been the least favorite of the BeautyFix boxes I've received so far.  The value, number of products, and product sizes are really nice but they're just not products I'm interested in.  The July box will be arriving soon and I'm hoping it will have more useful items for me!

Petit Vour - June 2015

I finally received my June Petit Vour today!  My post office lost some of my packages nearly two weeks ago and finally found them today.  Better late than never I guess!  I'm happy to get to show what I got in my Petit Vour box this month:

Product Information Card
Meow Meow Tweet Spot Serum  1 ml  ($2.50 value)

Cost of Box:  $15 per month (free shipping to US)
Total Box Value:  $44.50
Impressions:   I like this month's box a lot better than last month's box.  I will not be using the eyeliner but everything else I plan to try.  The Green Smoothie mask is a bentonite clay mask.  I also received a similar bentonite mask in the June Kloverbox.  I guess this type of mask is becoming more popular lately.  I liked the one featured in Kloverbox so I'm guessing this one will work similarly.  I do like that this one contains sweet almond.  The price on the info card is $17.50 but it is listed on the website for only $15.  The facial cleansing brush is very soft and would probably be good if you're skin is too sensitive for Clarisonics or similar electronic brushes.  I really like my Olay electronic brush but will save this one for gentler cleansing when having break outs.  I currently have a blemish that I hope the Tweet Tweet spot serum will make disappear!  The info card lists the value of the Tweet Tweet Skincare products featured in this month's box at $9 but the Spot serum costs $25 for 10 ml on the website so my serum sample (1 ml) isn't anywhere close to being $9.  I'm not sure how they calculated the $9 value.  Anyway, the total value of the box is still 3 times what I paid and I plan to use 3 out of the 4 items.  The value of the 3 items I'll use is $26.50 which is still more than what I paid so this month's box was a much better value for me than last month's box where I actually only ended up liking 1 small sample.

So far Petit Vour has been an okay box for me but not one that I've been overly excited about.  I have discovered a few good samples through them but I decided to cancel my subscription to see if I would miss it.  I may regret missing out on next month's box but I can easily resubscribe if I start to miss getting this box.  I've recently started to experience product overload and have been trying to really pare down my beauty box subscriptions to those I really like, that primarily features skincare and lifestyle items, and have a good value relative to the cost.  Once I go through and weed out and use up a lot of the current samples I've accumulated over the last few months, I'll probably come back and pick up some of the subscriptions I've cancelled or put on hold.  Hopefully I will not miss out on something really amazing in the meantime!

Kloverbox - June 2015

My June Kloverbox arrived over the weekend and I'm excited about it!  I always look forward to receiving this box each month.  Here's a look at what was featured in this month's box:

Cost of Box:  $25 (includes shipping)
Total Box Value:  $69
Impressions:  I love this month's box!  All the skincare products are full size which I think is awesome.  I have received a Konjac sponge before in one of my Petit Vour boxes and it does provide nice gentle exfoliation if you have sensitive skin or you don't want to agitate an area on your face where you may have a break out.  I've tried the Deco mask only once but I think it works well from what I could tell.  Of course, the issue with clay masks is making sure you get all the residue off your face.  I always go over my face with a cotton facial pad and toner a couple of times after washing off masks to help get it all out of my pores.  I tried mixing the mask with water but the Deco website also suggests trying yogurt or honey.  I love honey based masks so I definitely plan to use honey next time!  The key chain pouch made of cork fabric is neat.  The pouch comes with a few different zipper color options on the Natalie Therese website but not sure if all Kloverbox subscribers will get the same color in their box.  I would have preferred the black zipper option but I still plan to use the aqua one that I got.  It is big enough to carry cash/credit cards/ID/lip balm at times when I don't want to carry a purse.  I think my favorite product in this box is the Pacifica body butter.  It contains shea and almond oil (two of my favorite skincare ingredients) and smells of coconut and vanilla!  I've already been applying it like crazy, not because I need to but because I just like the smell so much!  It has been doing a good job of moisturizing.  It is a large tube that should last a while and for $12 (with discount code), I'm seriously considering ordering another tube.  Overall, I'm quite happy with this month's box!  I can't wait to receive my July Kloverbox!
