Petit Vour - June 2015

I finally received my June Petit Vour today!  My post office lost some of my packages nearly two weeks ago and finally found them today.  Better late than never I guess!  I'm happy to get to show what I got in my Petit Vour box this month:

Impressions:   I like this month's box a lot better than last month's box.  I will not be using the eyeliner but everything else I plan to try.  The Green Smoothie mask is a bentonite clay mask.  I also received a similar bentonite mask in the June Kloverbox.  I guess this type of mask is becoming more popular lately.  I liked the one featured in Kloverbox so I'm guessing this one will work similarly.  I do like that this one contains sweet almond.  The price on the info card is $17.50 but it is listed on the website for only $15.  The facial cleansing brush is very soft and would probably be good if you're skin is too sensitive for Clarisonics or similar electronic brushes.  I really like my Olay electronic brush but will save this one for gentler cleansing when having break outs.  I currently have a blemish that I hope the Tweet Tweet spot serum will make disappear!  The info card lists the value of the Tweet Tweet Skincare products featured in this month's box at $9 but the Spot serum costs $25 for 10 ml on the website so my serum sample (1 ml) isn't anywhere close to being $9.  I'm not sure how they calculated the $9 value.  Anyway, the total value of the box is still 3 times what I paid and I plan to use 3 out of the 4 items.  The value of the 3 items I'll use is $26.50 which is still more than what I paid so this month's box was a much better value for me than last month's box where I actually only ended up liking 1 small sample. 

So far Petit Vour has been an okay box for me but not one that I've been overly excited about.  I have discovered a few good samples through them but I decided to cancel my subscription to see if I would miss it.  I may regret missing out on next month's box but I can easily resubscribe if I start to miss getting this box.  I've recently started to experience product overload and have been trying to really pare down my beauty box subscriptions to those I really like, that primarily features skincare and lifestyle items, and have a good value relative to the cost.  Once I go through and weed out and use up a lot of the current samples I've accumulated over the last few months, I'll probably come back and pick up some of the subscriptions I've cancelled or put on hold.  Hopefully I will not miss out on something really amazing in the meantime!

Impressions:   I really like that there were three full size items in this box and the total box value was three times what I paid for the box.  I will not be using the lipstick because I do not wear it but this one is a nice color.  Dry shampoo does not work well in my naturally curly hair and even if I did use it, I wouldn't like a shimmery product in my hair.  I don't really like that the body scrub is shimmery either but I will give this a try because it contains rosehip, grapeseed, and vitamin E oils.  And I really like that it smells like white grapefruit!  I've been hoping that I would eventually get some MUN skin products in my one of my beauty boxes one day so I'm really happy to get this rose toner.  I do wish it was a larger sample though.  This is only a single use sample.  Overall, this wasn't my favorite Petit Vour box because I will not get a lot of product use out of it.  The body scrub and toner are valued at $13 which is a little less than what I paid so this month's box wasn't the best deal for me.  I'm still looking forward to seeing what comes in next month's box!

Update:  I tried the shimmer scrub and I would not recommend it unless you really, really like glitter!  Thankfully I only tried it on my arms rather than my whole body.  It took several tries with an exfoliating soap and brush to get all of the gold glitter off of me. 

Petit Vour - April 2015

I received my monthly beauty box from Petit Vour today!  If you are interested in vegan, cruelty beauty products, give this box a try.  I like that they also feature natural and organic products.  Here is what arrived in the April box:

Impressions:   I like that the nail polish is full size but I do not wear nail polish and even if I did, I would not like this color on my nails.  It's a little too girly-girl for my preference.  I will be putting this up for trade so someone else can enjoy it.  I am quite intrigued with the Konjac sponge.  It feels very hard in the package but I guess it softens once you wet it.  The package says that the sponge will last about 3 months.  This should be a nice additional tool to my facial brush.  I like that a sunscreen was included since we're coming into the spring/summer season when people will be out in the sun more, but I really wish that this one wasn't a tinted sunscreen.  If it was not tinted, I would probably keep it instead of trading it.  The individually packaged towelettes will be nice to have handy in my purse.  I like that they are gentle enough to be used any where on your body.  Overall, I think the value of this box is great.  The retail value is twice what I paid but the value of the 2 samples I plan to use are less than what I paid for this box.  However, since the cleansing sponge lasts 3 months, I'm satisfied with this box.  I'm also pleased with how quickly this box is delivered.  My box arrived within 4 days of shipping from Texas to South Carolina.

I also ordered a sample of R.L. Linden & Co. Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist ($2) to try because I've read reviews that highly recommended it.  

The regular price is $48 for a 3.4 oz bottle so I like that Petit Vour offers small, inexpensive samples for customers to try before committing to a pricey full size purchase, but they don't have this option for all products.  I'm not sure of the size of the sample because it isn't listed.  This mist contains ingredients such as Colorado spring water, honeysuckle, rose, and calendula extracts, organic Jojoba oil, and Neroli and Jasmine essential oils.  Doesn't that sound heavenly?!  They recommend applying it after cleansing and before applying any other products or spritz throughout the day for a hydration and radiance pick me up.  I have very dry skin so having a way to hydrate my skin without applying multiple layers of face moisturizers throughout the day is appreciated.  And a fresh, light skin moisturizer like this would be ideal when you are going to be outside during hot summer months and  want to avoid having a lot of heavy products on your face.  This small sample size has been great for carrying around in my purse.

Petit Vour - March 2015

I received my first Petit Vour box today.  Petit Vour is a beauty box and online store that features luxury vegan and cruelty free beauty products.  Since their subscription box and store offers a lot of natural skincare products, I decided to give them a try.

Here's what was featured in the March box:

Impressions:  I will not be using the Juice Beauty CC cream because I don't wear makeup of any kind.  I've read some reviews of others who tried it that said it didn't provide very much coverage and was too orange/dark for those with pale skin. I haven't had a chance to try the Cacao & Banana face glow mask yet but I'm very intrigued by it.  It looks just like mineral powder foundation and feels velvety smooth when you rub it between your fingers so I seriously doubt there would be any problems with it being to abrasive.  The info card lists the cost at $32 but the online store lists this size at $28.  The Eros perfume is a little too rich and earthy for my preference.  I think it's the juniper smell that may be ruining it for me.  The lip cream is the item I'm most excited about.  I've been on the hunt for a natural lip balm to replace my Blistex with so this came right on time!   Since I'm switching to more natural skincare products, I've been paying closer attention to ingredient lists.  I recently learned that Blistex Medicated lip balm contains two parabens (preservatives) and I've decided to try and avoid using skincare items with paraben preservatives if I can help it.  I was a little concerned about the this lip cream being scented with lavender because I find most lavender scented things to be overwhelming.  The spearmint is the dominant fragrance but neither fragrance is overwhelming to me.  Surprisingly, I like the mint and lavender combo.  And I love how creamy and moisturizing this lip cream is.  I hope Petit Vour features more lip products from this brand!

Overall I am pleased with the variety and size of the products featured.  For the price, I'm getting more products that I find useful than I usually get in my $10 a month Birchbox (which usually leans more heavily on the makeup side).   I plan to use 2 out of the 4 products featured in this box and they should last me for weeks so I would say the $15 price isn't too bad.  I'm looking forward to the April box!

Updates:  I tried the Cacao & Banana face glow mask and it did leave my skin feeling a little smoother.  My face didn't feel tight and dry after using it.  I assume that the "glowing" effects  become more noticeable with regular use.  A complaint that I have about this product is that it didn't rinse away as cleanly as I would like.  But I guess residue is to be expected when you're essentially smearing chocolate on your face!  Also, some ingredient in the mask turned the bristles of my facial brush a yellowish color.  I also noticed this yellowish color on the cotton face pad when I swabbed my face with toner.  I had to go over my face a couple of times before most of the yellowish color went away.  I believe the yellowish color might be caused by the yellow clay and/or turmeric root ingredients.  I plan to continue using the mask but I know now that I will have to be mindful of the potential to stain my facial brush and maybe even my pillowcase if I don't go over my face with toner to remove the cacao and yellow-staining residues.
